Mike Casano is a drummer, producer, writer, educator and DJ from the Boston, MA area. The son of professional trumpeter Joe Casano, Mike was inspired by all kinds of great music early on and throughout his life, including his two favorite artists Stevie Wonder and Mike Stern. Mike attended Berklee College of Music from 1996-2000, studying and playing with some unbelievably great teachers and fellow students. He graduated with a B.A. Degree in Drum Set Performance.
Since 2000, Mike has maintained an active playing schedule. His versatile style and reliable groove allows him to work as a professional drummer in a wide range of musical styles and situations. Mike has performed with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group The Drifters, legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker, vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, R&B great Ellis Hall, Grover & CGI, rock singer Chas West, saxophonist George Garzone and actress Uzo Aduba (Orange Is The New Black). Mike was featured in DRUM! Magazine in 2014 and has had articles published in Modern Drummer magazine.
In 2014, Mike formed a big band with his father called Mike & Joe's Big Band. The group consistently features the best jazz musicians from the New England area playing exciting jazz, funk and latin music. Mike also leads his own jazz/fusion group called Mike Casano Fusion. He released a live album of the band in October, 2019 called Go Anywhere. Mike has played frequently with such diverse bands as GQ & The Lady, Brass Force, Grover & CGI, John Allmark Jazz Orchestra, Linda Calise, Christine Fawson, Pete Levesque, Metro West Thump, Myanna, Katrin, Jen Murdza and the New England Philharmonic. Over the years, Mike has opened for such great artists as Brandi Carlile and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Mike also leads a funk/neo-soul band called Players Only featuring vocalist Mark Love (Rick James).
Mike has performed at the Cutting Room NYC, Patriots Place, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Twin River, Majestic Theatre in Boston, Vets Theater in Providence, the mansions in Newport, RI, Hyatt Atlanta, GA, Boston Jazz Festival, Hampton Beach Seafood Festival and on the battleship the Intrepid in NYC.
Mike produces original music under the name My Key C which he describes as playeristic neo soul. He has two singles available to buy or stream, "We Got This" and "Play That Game".
As an educator, Mike has 20 years of experience teaching private and group lessons, as well as percussion ensembles and marching band drumlines. He has also taught jazz rhythm section clinics and master classes. Mike has played for the Victor Wooten Bass Camp at Berklee as well as their Guitar Week summer program.
